Simple, Non-Invasive Test to Assess Urinary Flow
Uroflowmetry, often called URO Flow, is a quick and painless test that measures the speed and volume of urine flow during urination. It helps your urologist evaluate how well your bladder and urethra are functioning and diagnose urinary problems.
Why Is Uroflowmetry Done?
URO Flow is used to assess symptoms such as:
- Difficulty starting urination
- Weak or slow urine stream
- Frequent urination or urgency
- Incomplete bladder emptying
- Painful or interrupted flow
- Suspected bladder outlet obstruction (e.g., enlarged prostate)
- Follow-up after prostate or urinary surgery
How Does the Test Work?
- You will be asked to urinate into a special funnel-shaped device connected to a machine that records your urine flow rate.
- The device measures the amount of urine released over time, providing data like peak flow rate, average flow rate, and total volume.
What Does the Test Show?
The results give valuable information on:
- Whether your urine flow is normal, reduced, or obstructed
- The pattern of your urine stream (steady, intermittent, or weak)
Possible causes of urinary symptoms such as bladder muscle weakness or blockage
Preparing for Uroflowmetry
- Drink enough fluids before the test so that you have a comfortably full bladder.
- Try to avoid urinating for at least one hour before the test.
Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking.
After the Test
Your urologist will review the uroflowmetry results alongside other diagnostic tests and your symptoms to develop an appropriate treatment plan if needed.
Schedule Your Uroflowmetry Test
If you are experiencing urinary difficulties, URO Flow can help identify the cause and guide effective treatment.
